TikTok is going into full entertainment mode as the platform has commissioned the first original musical, called "For You, Paige."

Led by Daniel Mertzlufft, best known for his Grocery Store Musical and Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical, the musical will feature James Henry as Tyler, Krystina Alabado as Kaia, and others. Performed LIVE from a theater in New York City, the musical will be streamed globally on TikTok on April 14 at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT, the company said in a blog post.

TikTok claims the story is inspired by real TikTok creators and will describe a collaborative creative process of making a song between teenage music nerd Landon (played by Roman Banks) and his best friend Paige (played by Sri Ramesh). The description goes on:

When a producer offers Landon the opportunity to adapt the book series into a musical, Landon discovers that the glory of doing it all himself isn’t worth the stress and enlists the help of Paige and the TikTok community to turn the show into a huge success.

Maria Goulamhoussen and Emily Maltby will co-direct the live performance, with Katie Spelman choreographing. TikTok's efforts toward cementing its presence in the music industry come after its stars Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow won the 2022 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, for "The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical."

The project — inspired by the Netflix series "Bridgerton" — beat out Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cinderella," the cast recording of "Girl from the North Country," "Les Misérables: The Staged Concert" and "Stephen Schwartz’s Snapshots."
