Founded by brothers Pavel and Nikolai Durov, Telegram is now more than just a messenger. The app already supports processing payments via 15 integrated payment providers, including Google Pay and Apple Pay and "millions of people" have already utilized them since 2015, the company added in the announcement.

Durov currently lives in Dubai—just where Telegram is based as well—and earlier became a French citizen.
