Meta wants to lower the threshold to access its metaverse-focused hub Horizon Worlds without any virtual reality (VR) headsets. The company is currently testing a "web version" that besides its simplicity and accessibility will also be cheaper for its users.

While the "true version" of Horizon Worlds — which uses Oculus — plans to take a 47.5% cut of sales in the virtual world, Meta CTO Andrew "Boz" Bosworth highlighted in a tweet that the web version would take only 25% from each sale, which is a "much lower rate" compared to other similar world-building platforms like Roblox.

Bosworth didn't elaborate on the timeline, but added that the company wants to ensure that "developers have a path to real financial success on our platform."

It’s early days, there is still a lot of work to be done and we continue to partner closely with our creators and developers to enable them to earn meaningful revenue.

In a recent interview with The Verge, Meta VP of Horizon Vivek Sharma said that the 3D metaverse might also come to mobile devices later this year and is in "early discussions" about bringing it to game consoles.

To The Moon earlier reported that Meta started testing monetization features that will enable artists to sell virtual items in virtual worlds as well as payout bonuses in the US.

Initially, Meta plans to test the feature with a "handful of creators to get their feedback." However, the company said that the updates are steps toward its long-term vision for the metaverse "where creators can earn a living and people can purchase digital goods, services, and experiences."
