Discord bots for startups focused on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have become the main target for hackers as the total amount of the stolen money surpassed $1.5 million in cryptocurrencies.
What is noteworthy is that all the attacks happened just in one day. As of press time, at least three projects confirmed the incidents.
- The first project that reported about the attack was "Jenkins The Valet," a collection of 6,942 NFTs of Jenkins metaverse tales. According to reports, the project's followers lost 24 ETH (~$95,000 as of press time) over a fraudulent link from Discord's bot.
- A few hours later, a Solana-based NFT collection called "Monkey Kingdom" reported about the hack. Preliminary estimates show the bad actors succeeded to steal the biggest stake — $1.3 million.
- The last one was Justin Kan's NFT marketplace "Fractal," whose followers on Discord lost approximately $154,000 in SOL, according to The Block.
While the technical details of the hacks are yet to be disclosed, in all the above-mentioned cases Discord's bots were the Achilles heel.
