Developers of the Bored Ape Yacht Club came under criticism after the project required passing KYC (know your customer) policy for joining a mysterious project co-developed with Animoca Brands.

A spokesperson for the NFT collection noted that the team behind the collection doesn't like KYCs either, but they believe "you’re going to want to be a part of this." The website dubbed "" requires users to connect their wallets via MetaMask and then asks people for their passport details, proof of address, and selfies.

The verification process is done via a third party called Blockpass, a blockchain identity protocol. It remains unclear what the project is about nor why Animoca and BAYC would need to know users' data.
